Philip Rossi, S.J.

Philip Rossi, S.J. is Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs and Professor of Theology, Marquette University and a Trustee of Creighton University. His research focuses on philosophy of religion and Christian ethics and he has published extensively on the theological import of the work of Immanuel Kant. A member of the faculty of Marquette University since 1975, he has been visiting professor at Sogang University, Seoul Korea, at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines and a research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh. He is the author of Together Toward Hope: A Journey to Moral Theology, co-editor of Kant’s Philosophy of Religion Reconsidered and of Mass Media and the Moral Imagination. He was editor of the journal Philosophy & Theology (1993-2000) and served on the board of editorial consultants for Theological Studies (1991-98). His recently completed book manuscript, The Social Authority of Reason: Critique, Radical Evil and the Destiny of Humankind, will be published by SUNY Press. In addition to continuing research on Kant, his current interests focus on work of the Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor, and on the impact of a globalized, post modern culture upon moral and religious imagination, understanding and practice.
