Irfan Omar

Irfan A. Omar holds a Ph.D. from Temple University in Religion/Islamic Studies.
He specializes in Islamic thought with a particular focus on mystical and
aesthetic expressions of Islam. His secondary areas of interest are World
Religions and South Asian Studies. He is editor of Islam and Other Religions:
Pathways to Dialogue (London and New York: Routledge, 2006) and co-editor of
Heirs of Abraham: The Future of Jewish, Christian and Muslim Relations
(Maryknoll, NY: Orbis, 2005). Previously he served as guest editor for the
special issue of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (Birmingham, UK),
entitled, "Islam in Dialogue" Vol. 15:1 (January 2004). He is an Associate
Editor of the Journal of Ecumenical Studies. His other recent
publications include, "Religious Identities and the Contesting Civilizations of
Contemporary India," a review essay of Gerald James Larson's India's Agony
Over Religion, (with Douglas L. Berger), in Journal of Dharma (India)
29, 1 (January 2004), pp. 95-106 and "Khizr-i Rah - The Pre-Eminent Guide to
Action in Muhammad Iqbal's Thought," in Islamic Studies (Pakistan) 43
(1), Spring 2004, pp. 39-50. He is currently working on Islamic perspectives on
peace and non-violence and a volume of essays on Muslim-Christian relations.
