Seumas Miller

Seumas Miller is Professor of Philosophy at The Australian National University and Charles Sturt University; the Director of the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics, an Australian Research Council funded Centre in Canberra; and a Professorial Fellow in Philosophy at the University of Melbourne. He taught and held a research fellowship at the University of Melbourne before becoming the head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Charles Sturt University (1994-1999). Professor Miller has also taught at Rhodes University and has lectured at the University of Canberra. He received his BA in Philosophy and History at the Australian National University, his MA in Philosophy and Politics from Oxford University, and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Melbourne. Professor Miller specializes in professional and applied ethics, philosophy of literature and literary theory, philosophy of social action, and philosophy of language. His books include Social Action: A Teleological Account (Cambridge University Press, 2001); Corruption and Anti-Corruption: A Study in Applied Philosophy (with P. Roberts and E. Spence, Prentice Hall, 2004); Police Ethics (with J. Blackler and A. Alexandra, Allen and Unwin, 2nd Edition, 2005); and Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism: An Applied Philosophical Approach (Blackwell Publishing, forthcoming).
