David Gosling
Dr. David Gosling a distinguished scholar of physics, environmental chemistry and ecology has lectured at the universities of Delhi (St. Stephens College) and at the University of Cambridge, where he is also currently a Life Member of Clare Hall. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the Resource Systems Institute of the East-West Center in Hawaii. In addition to his scholarship in the sciences, Dr. Gosling has also conducted extensive research in religious studies in India and Thailand, where he studied the activities of Buddhist monks and lay nuns (mae chii). He was the first Spalding Fellow in Religions at the University of Cambridge, and also served as the Director of Church and Society of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva. As Director of the WCC, Dr. Gosling was responsible for advising the churches on an impressive array of critical social and environmental issues that range from AIDS to nuclear power and biotechnology. In addition to his prestigious academic work he has assisted British Intelligence (MI6) on issues relating to the disposal of nuclear waste. Among Dr. Gosling’s most recent publications is his book, Religion and Ecology in India and Southeast Asia.
