H. Richard Friman

H. Richard Friman is the Eliot Fitch Professor of International Studies and Director of the Institute for Transnational Justice at Marquette University. An expert in international relations and international political economy, his current research focuses on the dynamics of the illicit global economy; migrant trafficking; immigration and drug control policy in Japan, Germany and the United States; and domestic bargaining in international economic relations. Among his recent grants and fellowships are awards from the German Marshall Fund, German Academic Exchange Service, Japan-U.S. Educational Commission-Fulbright Program, Social Science Research Council, Association of Asian Studies, and the American Political Science Association. Professor Friman’s recent books include The Illicit Global Economy and State Power (Rowman & Littlefield, 1999) and Narcodiplomacy: Exporting the U.S. War on Drugs (Cornell, 1996). His publications also include two additional books, numerous book chapters, and articles in International Organization, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, the American Journal of Economics and Sociology and other leading journals.+
