Lindsay Falvey

 

 

Lindsey Falvey is a leading international agricultural authority on environmental ethics whose current academic work focuses on the impact of religious perspectives on agricultural practice and ethics.  Falvey has served on more than 100 international missions to Asia, Africa and the Middle East on behalf of the Australian Government, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations and other organizations, has led 35 of those teams, and has been recognized for his outstanding work with awards from the governments of Thailand and Australia, including being awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in 2003 for his contribution to the nation.  Formerly managing director of Australia’s largest international environmental consulting firm and then Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture at the University of Melbourne, he now holds the Chair in Agriculture at the University of Melbourne and is the author of nine books and more than 100 articles.  He has also served as the acting head of the Institute of Asian Languages and Societies at the University of Melbourne and is currently on the international advisory board for the Asian Agri-History Foundation in India and the board of the National Thai Studies Centre at the Australian National University.  Falvey has been an extremely involved member of the Forum’s International Board of Consultants since he joined us in the summer of 2003, and he participated extensively in the Forum’s symposium and panels at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Barcelona in July 2004.  He has also been interviewed for the Forum’s documentary on “Global Voices for Human Rights.”
