H.M. Habib Chirzin

H.M. Habib Chirzin is an
extraordinary Islamic activist, community organizer, and human rights advocate
based in Jakarta, Indonesia, who is also an active participant in global
inter-religious dialogue. Among the
many leadership roles he has taken, he is the president of the Islamic Millennium Forum and editor of Islamic
Millennium Journal; director of the Asian Muslim Action Network; editor-in-chief
of Mizan, the journal of the Islamic Forum of Indonesia for World Culture
and Civilization; director of the (Ecumenical) Forum on Peace and Development
Ethics Studies; chairman of the Moral Indonesia Reconciliation Movement;
vice-chairman of the Asia Pacific Forum’s Sub-commission on Human Rights
Education and Public Awareness, head of the Forum for Peace, Development and the
Environment; a member of the Board of Trustees for the South East Asia Regional
Initiatives for Community Empowerment (SEARICE); a member of the advisory board
for the International Movement for a Just World; and a member of the Indonesian
Human Rights Commission. He is very
involved in interreligious dialogue, particularly Muslim-Buddhist dialogue, and
was a participant in The Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and
Spiritual Leaders convened at the United Nations in 2000 and in the Summit of
World Muslim Leaders convened in December 2001 in Jakarta, one of the first such
global gatherings of Muslim leaders after the September 11th attack
on the United States.
