Christopher Key Chapple

Prof. Christopher Key Chapple is a professor of
theological studies, and associate academic vice president of LMU Extension,
which includes Study Abroad, the Encore Program, Summer Session, the Center for
Religion and Spirituality, the Los Angeles Center for International Studies, and
Continuing Education at Loyola Marymount University. In 1986, Dr. Chapple
founded the Southern California Seminar on South Asia and he is an active member
of the Forum on Religion and Ecology. His
research interests have focused on the renouncer traditions of India:
Yoga, Jainism, and Buddhism. He has published eight books, including Karma
and Creativity (1986), a co-translation of the Yoga Sutras of
Patanjali (1991), and Nonviolence to Animals, Earth, and Self in
Asian Traditions (1993). His most recent publications include two edited
volumes for Harvard University's Center for the Study of World Religions: Hinduism
and Ecology and Jainism and Ecology:
Nonviolence in the Web of Life. He is also engaged in a
long-term study of Haribhadra's Jaina analysis of Yoga.
