Recipient of the Prize of Israel
Schwarz-Kipp Professor of Professional Ethics and Philosophy at Tel Aviv University in Israel, Asa Kasher is internationally recognized for his work on a broad range of topics in philosophy and ethics, particularly on military ethics, medical ethics, philosophy of language, and issues of Jewish identity. In recognition of his work on military ethics, Professor Kasher was awarded the Itzhak Sade Prize for Military Literature in 1997, and in 2000 he was awarded the Prize of Israel – the most prestigious award made by the State of Israel – for his work on philosophy and ethics.
Professor Kasher is the author of more than 150 articles and 23 edited volumes and monographs, including The Israel Defense Force’s Code of Ethics, published by the Israel Ministry of Defense. Editor of the Israeli philosophical journal Philosophia and a founding member of the advisory board for the Journal of Military Ethics, he has served as president of the Israel Philosophical Association and head of the Military Ethics Committee IDF Personnel Division, as a member of the Executive Committee for the Israeli Society of Medical Ethics and the Israeli Press Council, and as a representative for the Israel Delegation to UNESCO.
